Breaking Barriers in History
What I learned from History day...
Doing this project made me realize I can do anything I put my mind to. I’ve learned how to find research and I overall learned a ton. It’s a great experience if you want to learn something new about yourself.
I learned so many different things from History day. I learned how to do an annotated bibliography correctly and my mom says that will really help in college. I learned how to conduct credible and efficient research and learned a lot about ancient Rome. Because of History day and the hard work I put into it, I know that I can do hard things if I put the time and effort into it. I learned that the outcome of hard work is always worth it in the end. I feel that history day was worth the hard work. For one thing, it taught me diligence and to not procrastinate. I also got more experience on making a good paper. Finally, I learned a lot on a cool topic I didn’t previously know about. I learned how to present something better. Making and presenting my documentary was good practice. During this project I gained so much respect for the people I did my project on. I learned how to view both sides of an argument more situation and not assuming that one is bad or what is good and I obviously learned more about history. This may sound cheesy, but I learned a lot about myself. I learned how I research and how I write. I grew as a writer. I learned tons about my topic also. I can say I am a hard worker, but I learned how to work harder and it paid off in the end. I learned that if I work hard enough I can do anything I want to do. Oh my, I just love that feeling! I also learned that I should be confident in what I say and in anything I do. I learned so much! I loved it! I think the best part about history day was being able to express your project in whatever way you want it. There were categories that fit everyone’s creative outlets. If you wanted to do it digitally, you could. There was a spoken performance option if you wanted to do it. It let people choose how their project was going to be for the final judging. I also learned how to get out of my comfort zone and ask people for interviews and recordings. One last thing that I learned is how helpful pear reviews and outside opinions are. They really do help. I learned hard work throughout this experience because it is hard work. I also learned perseverance. Sometimes it was hard to keep going but I did it. It was worth it. My favorite part of the history day experience was feeling accomplished after it was all over. I like to getting to do something hard and challenging myself. I would definitely say that history day was worth it because it felt immensely satisfying to know how hard you worked. I learned a drastic amount of different things by doing this project. I learned about my topic, and pretty much became an expert on it. I also learned how to use technology even better than before. By doing this, I was able to gain communication and presentation skills that I would not have otherwise gained. It was hard, but it taught me more than I thought it could. History day was totally worth it. I learned so much that I otherwise wouldn’t have. I was able to make new friends, and developed better communication skills. It was a fun experience. Looking back on it, it is an experience I really needed to have. What I learned most is how to work hard. This was the hardest project that I have ever done. It took a lot of determination to do it. I really had to work hard for this one but I did it! |
Advice from past students...The advice I would give the next year students is NEVER procrastinate. It’s not worth it. You’ll have a lot of catching up to do if you slack off. Also, Stick with it! Don’t quit because it’s hard. The end result is worth it.
To not stall, especially during the first three months because that is the hardest and most crucial part. Don’t procrastinate. Come up with a topic fast and get the MOST sources you can. I wish I would have had more sources when we finally got super busy. Maybe Miss Dansie could even up the minimum for sources because I really could’ve used it. My advice would be to choose a topic you can relate to or that you are interested in. You’re going to be spending a lot of time on it, so you might as well choose something you’ll like. Also that if you put your heart and soul into it, it will be worth it. Students you may think that this is very hard and unachievable. That’s what I thought. You have to work very hard, but everyone can do it if they have the right attitude. Don’t think that you have to do this project, but that you get to do it. Do everything on time, put all you got into your project, and have a great attitude. That is the way to success in history day. You don’t always have to win in history day, but the experience for history day was so great. I learned so much from history day and I definitely recommend doing it. Don’t procrastinate, get interviews over email or phone with professors. It’s super important! Care! It is way worth it so do your best! Let Dansie help you. Do you theisi! You must have a perfect thesis for paper and other categories. This introduces your topic and without it people will be confused. Reach your word limit, judges will be impressed! Use big, sophisticated words. You want to sound old. Have fun! It’s awesome! I would tell next year’s kids to be very careful about the topic you choose because it gets very hard very quickly when you find yourself bored of the subject of your research. Choose what you really like. To all the future students, don’t take this lightly, don’t procrastinate, don’t try to get out of things, and don’t just go on the Internet for research. But do choose something you’re interested in. The advice I would give is to do lots and lots of research, way more than you think you need. I didn’t have enough research and that was my downfall. My advice to a student next year is to make sure you find a good topic. Don’t just look at one and pick it. Spend some time finding a unique and interesting topic that you are interested in. Also make sure you have balanced research. Have a topic that is balanced research and shows both sides and has sources for both sides. |
